Based in Washington, DC, Resolve is an advocacy organization working with activists, policy experts, and civil society leaders to identify and build support for policy measures that can help end atrocities being committed by a rebel group in central Africa called the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). In addition to seeking an end to LRA violence, we advocate for increased US support of recovery and reconciliation efforts to help LRA-affected families and communities rebuild their lives. By telling the story of what's happening and utilizing strategic campaigns to guide our leaders toward proven solutions, we are transforming apathy into concrete action for just and lasting peace. We address the root causes of the problem. This crisis is not a natural disaster; it continues to persist because of specific peoples' choices and the policies of relevant government leaders. Our action can alter those choices and and change those policies, and in so doing, help end LRA violence permanently and ensure affected communities can recover. To accomplish this, Resolve brings together experts who identify policy solutions and organizes public campaigns that convince our leaders to take them.
To be as effective as possible in accomplishing our mission and to ensure that our goals are relevant to the needs of the people most impacted by this crisis, Resolve collaborates with 1) advocacy and humanitarian groups focused on shaping US human rights policy, 2)individuals and groups in central Africa working with families and communities affected by the LRA, 3) awareness groups helping to spread the word about this crisis, and 4) activists across the country committed to seeing an end to LRA atrocities. Didn't you used to be called Resolve Uganda? And before that, were you Uganda-CAN?
Our first initiative, focused on news monitoring and analysis, was called the Uganda Conflict Action Network (Uganda-CAN). It was founded in 2005. Through that project, we recognized the need for a comprehensive advocacy campaign, and launched Resolve Uganda in 2006. With the LRA moving out of Uganda and into neighboring border areas of Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Central African Republic, we dropped "Uganda" in 2010 and are now simply Resolve.
Is Resolve a partisan organization?
We firmly believe that securing peace in central Africa is a non-partisan issue and are committed to working with allies on both side of the aisle to see that that happens.
